Yori's capture story

From Sue Bell:

"We were finally able to trap Yori in what seemed like the only securely fenced in yard in all of Arlington, thanks to the efforts of soooo many of you. Most recently, thanks to Lois who was able to feed Yori from feet away earlier today and lure her into a backyard....and leave food once she ran off.

As we returned to that yard with a trap all set and prepared to be left, there was Yori eating the food that had been left...just inside the fence enough for us to shut the gate and then play CATCH YORI for five minutes...but her not getting out of the fence made all the difference!

Thanks to everyone's efforts....every bit helped us get her back in about 24 hours....YAY YAY YAY

Now let's catch Finn who was today sighted in Cabin John (not good because he has traveled quite a distance) :("

How to Help

Flyering supplies and a master map are available at Dog Paws 'n Cat Claws University, 940 S. George Mason Dr., Arlington, VA 22204. Come by any time they are open.

If you speak to people, explain not to call her or chase her (unless there’s a group of people who might be able to corner her). Please leave their gate open in the hopes she will choose their yard as a hiding spot. Ask them to put stinky food out. Tuna, canned dog or cat food, etc. And/or kibble and water. Ask them to call if they hear howling.
Please don’t go through people’s yards, etc., without permission. We need the neighbors to like us and help us, not get mad at us.

  1. Take a stack of the LOST DOG BEAGLE flyers. Pick a street or streets on the map that aren’t highlighted in yellow yet. Highlight them in yellow if you are going there. Go door to door. Knock if willing. Leave a flyer at each house. IT IS ILLEGAL TO PUT ANYTHING IN SOMEONE’S MAILBOX.

  1. Take a stack of the LOST DOG flyers that are in plastic sleeves, a roll of tape, a staple gun, and extra staples (light duty if smaller staple gun, heavy duty if bigger staple gun). Pick a street or streets on the map that aren’t highlighted in pink yet. Highlight them in pink if you are going there.  Tape or staple flyers to stop signs, telephone poles, trees, etc. Think strategically about where they will be seen the most by car and foot.

  1. Take a stack of the LOST DOG flyers and tacks and go to businesses and community buildings and vets in the area and post on doors and bulletin boards if they will allow it (please ask).

SIGHTING IN NEIGHBORHOOD

Yori has been approaching dogs but running from people in the Alcova Heights neighborhood. We last saw her behind 3825 S. 9th St.
DO NOT CALL OUT OR SPEAK TO HER. She runs as soon as you do.
She is a howler so tonight she might howl. Call 240-535-6283 any time if you hear her.
Thank you!!!

Lost Dog - Scared Beagle named Yori

Yori the beagle is a foster dog with Homeward Trails Animal Rescue. She escaped her collar and ran away around 1:40pm Thurs. 2/16/12. She is a tri-color beagle, 1 1/2 years old, about 20 pounds, spayed. She is not wearing any collar, harness or ID since she pulled out of her collar and ran.
She is very shy and very scared. She was last seen running in the woods along S. George Mason Drive across the street from Dog Paws 'n Cat Claws University. The address there is 940 S. George Mason Dr., Arlington, VA 22204. She did a scared lap around the Alcova Heights Park (8th St. S. & S. George Mason).
Yori is very skittish and will not come to people. DO NOT CHASE HER!
She is trying to hide in back yards. If you have a fenced yard anywhere in the area, if at all possible, please leave your gate open and if you see her in it PLEASE try to sneak around and close the gate to trap her in the yard.
If seen, please call immediately:
 202-486-7077
703-298-5286
240-535-6283
She will run if you chase her. She likes other dogs and may come to another dog. The key to catching her will most likely be trapping her in a fenced yard… please help us!
